Ron Carroll
Finance Committee Chair

Ron Carroll announced that he will seek re-election to the office of Van Zandt County Commissioner, Precinct 4.  Carroll was elected Commissioner in 2002.

“It has been a privilege to serve the people of Precinct 4 these past 3 years,” Carroll said.

Carroll had campaigned on the promise that he would work with the Commissioner’s Court to develop long-term goals for the County.

“We are now in the first year of a financial recovery plan to place this county in better fiscal condition,”  he stated.  “We’ll open a 48 bed jail expansion in just a few weeks as part of a plan to increase our county jail capacity and keep criminals in jail.”

Carroll also cited his promise to rebuild 10 miles of road annually in Precinct 4.  He said by the end of 2005, he and his crew will have completed 33 miles of county roads.  Commissioner Carroll has also worked with cities and school districts in Precinct 4 to complete various paving projects thereby minimizing the cost to taxpayers.

Commissioner Carroll stated that he is asking the voters of Precinct 4 for another 4 years to accomplish the County’s financial plan as well as his Precinct 4 road and bridge plan.

“I believe I’ve been responsive to the needs of my precinct while also looking out for the best interests of the entire County,” Commissioner Carroll said.  “I will continue my conservative approach in any matters that may come before the Commissioner’s Court.”

Commissioner Carroll is a member of the Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association and of the Northeast Texas Judges and Commissioners Association.  He has participated in numerous county government training sessions covering issues such as fiscal planning, personnel matters, road and bridge practices, and legislative updates.

Prior to his election as County Commissioner, Carroll had over 33 years in law enforcement with 22 years in management.  He served as Chief of Police in Lindale, Keller, and Canton and holds a Masters Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education.

Carroll and his wife, Sharon, live in the Colfax Community and have three grown children.
